A set of both versions of ‘The Road is Wider than Long’ . The facsimile of the the hand-written version and the typeset version first published in 1939.
In 1938, as Europe prepared for war, Roland Penrose and Lee Miller made a journey together through the Balkans. On his return to England Roland produced a handmade photobook containing a Surrealist love poem drawn from his memories and pictures from their travels (the hand-written version). The following year he would create and print a typeset version based on this book which has today an important place in the history of Surrealist photobooks. The facsimile of the typeset version is of the first copy printed that Roland dedicated to Lee Miller and where he also added imaginative colour illustrations.
