Photographer Melanie Friend has often documented the wider aspects of war. Her work The Home Front reflects on the links between the military and entertainment in the UK, with a particular focus on public air shows that take place at RAF bases and in the skies above seaside resorts.
The images for Farleys Gallery have been selected from the original exhibition at Impressions Gallery, Bradford in 2013; The Home Front book was also published that year (Dewi Lewis Publishing in association with Impressions Gallery). The work has since toured internationally (USA, Canada). Melanie lives in London and taught photography at the University of Sussex from 2003-2019.
