Dreaming oneself awake

About this exhibition

Eileen Agar (1899-1991) studied painting at Byam Shaw, the Slade and in 1920 began receiving tuition from Leon Underwood at the Brook Green School of Art. Agar’s unique, personal style, led Paul Nash to suggest Roland Penrose and Herbert Read invite her to exhibit at the 1936 International Surrealist Exhibition. This introduction began Agar’s lifelong friendship with Roland Penrose & Lee Miller.
