This brooch is inspired by Man Ray’s solid gold sculpture of Lee Miller’s lips, made after 1933.
The Surrealist artists Man Ray and Lee Miller lived together between 1929 and 1932, first as a teacher and student and then as lovers. After they split up, Man Ray used images of Lee Millers eyes and lips as motifs in his photography, paintings and sculpture.
