As this clothes economy based feature title suggests the reader is advised that the long collarless pale blue ottoman jacket ‘with high revers: decorated with encrustations of hand painting’ could be worn in two different ways: paired with a long black velvet skirt like this one ‘for special evenings at home’ or a with a short knee length (also black velvet) skirt ‘for going out’. The picture was cropped tighter to the model, excluding the studio lights, for the article. Published in British Vogue, November 1943.

Matted C-type digital print made from digital file sourced from Lee Miller’s original negative.
