Neutrals are news, Beige: Bery model and Deep Grey: Durville model, Natural History Museum, London, England 1943

Lee Miller has chosen the busy background of the entrance of the Natural History Museum as the setting for these neutral outfits in order to accentuate the message of their neutrality. The outfit on the left is described as ‘beige, soft ground for the vivid accessory notes of red hat, red handbag. The fly front of this wool dress is edged with a pique band’ and two pressed pleats are in the front of the shirt. The other is a wool dress in deep grey with ‘crisp white undercollar frills’ that the caption claims to be the perfect ‘backer for the brilliance of the green bag and hat with red tassels.’ Published in British Vogue, April 1943, P48.
